The entrance to the library is on the floor above the museum, the first door on the left.

If you need to use the elevator to enter, please give us a call: +43 1 319 15 96-15. 

Cloakroom requirement: Bags, jackets, and coats must be left in the museum cloakroom (basement). Entering the library with transparent library bags is permitted.

Click & Collect
If you are unable to visit the library during opening hours to borrow books, we can offer you the option of depositing books in the foyer of the museum at the weekend. 

Please send an e-mail to entlehnung@freud-museum.at stating your name and e-mail address as well as the authors and titles of the books you would like to borrow. A maximum of three books can be borrowed in this way. Once your order has been processed, you will receive an email from us with more detailed information on how to collect the books from the museum. In any case, you must bring your valid library card and a photo ID with you to collect the books.  

Please note that we are unable to offer this service when the library is closed for vacations.

Return Box

A return box is available on the lower first floor of the museum for returns outside library opening hours. If you have any questions, please contact the museum staff in the foyer. Items can be returned during the museum's opening hours (Wednesday to Monday and public holidays, 10 am to 6 pm). You will receive a confirmation email in the days following the return.

Interlibrary Loan

Holders of library cards for the Library of Psychoanalysis may order books from libraries outside of Vienna (within Austria or, if not available in Austria, within Europe), if the reqired books are not available in any library in Vienna.

To research, please use the search engine provided by the Austrian Library Network, or the Karlsruhe Virtual Catalog.

Please keep in mind that for interlibrary loans, fees occur according to the respective institutions

Information for libraries

The Library of Psychoanalysis lends books under the following conditions:

  1. Within Austria: 4 week loan period with the possibility to extend the loan period for another 4 weeks. The fee for interlibrary loans is 3€ per book.
  2. Other countries: 10 week loan period without the possibility to extend this period. The fee for interlibrary loans is 6€ per book.
 
 
We reserve the right to decline interlibrary loan requests for certain books due to their physical condition or their significance for the institution.

Usage & Lending

The library is open to anyone who is interested.

At present it is not possible to pay by card in the library. We therefore kindly ask you to bring cash to purchase your library card or day ticket.

 

Library card

You need a library card to borrow books. Different cards are available:

For pupils: free card

Day-ticket: 3€ (valid for 2 weeks)

Annual card: 25€

Reduced student annual card: 15€

 

Reminder fees

A fee (50 cent per book per week) will be charged if you forget to return a book.
