During the winter term of 1916-1917 Freud gave lectures at Vienna University for the last time. After he gave up teaching, no more lectures on psychoanalysis are given at Vienna University. |

Freud produces the article Transience for the memorial volume of the Berlin Goethe Society. Here, influenced by the effect of the war, he describes mourning as a great psychological puzzle. It remains unclear to psychologists why the libido clings to its objects and does not want to give up lost objects. |
