Introduction to Freud's writings The Ego and the Id and "The Decomposition of the Psychic Personality" edited and commented by Patrizia Giampieri-German.
In 1923, in The Ego and the Id, Sigmund Freud introduced a model of the "psychic apparatus" illustrating a dynamic conception of mental life, of the mind, the "structural model." In the following decade, Freud further elaborated the structural model, and "The Decomposition of the Psychic Personality," his XXXI lecture from the "Neue[n] Folge der Vorlesungen zur Einführung in die Psychoanalyse," presented the result of this specification. The present new edition of these two texts is annotated and provided with a systematic introduction, which presents Freud's theory of the mental from the point of view of contemporary psychoanalytic research and brings it into interdisciplinary dialogue with advanced approaches to cognitive research. Freud's texts are given a voice and made accessible to neighboring disciplines and readers of the 21st century.
Prof. Dr. Patrizia Giampieri-Deutsch is University Professor of Psychotherapy Research and Head of the Department of Psychodynamics at Karl Landsteiner Private University for Health Sciences. She is a real member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences as well as a teaching analyst of the Vienna Psychoanalytic Association and the International Psychoanalytical Association.
