Puberty and adolescence have been neglected topics by psychoanalysis for many years. The book describes the time of sexual maturity and their emotional responses in life until the entry into adulthood. Is this “Sturm und Drang” period a normal episode in life or does it show a precursor of a serious illness?
In the book, equal treatment is given to adolescents and parents, since parents’ experience of their child’s puberty stirs up experiences from their own puberty. In contrast to other authors in this field, the focus lies on positive developments and encouraging adolescent patients to find their own solutions, which will also motivate readers to explore the option of psychotherapy for their children in puberty. Cases from everyday life are included, thus making the book uniquely attractive to a broad range of readers, not just students and mental health professionals but parents in general. Since it provides a wealth of new data, the book is most valuable for clinicians and pediatricians.
In light of the challenges we are currently facing there will also be the opportunity to ask and discuss issues facing adolescents after the book presentation in Break Out Sessions and in the open forum.
