The question of an "ethical stance" has arisen as an urgent theme for psychoanalysts working right now under the most frightening and dangerous conditions in the Ukraine. Can a position of "abstinence" and "neutrality" be maintained when one's home country is under siege and human lives are in imminent danger? This and other questions will be discussed at a small round table by four eminent psychoanalysts, well known for their work in the history and dynamics of trauma. Oleksandr Filts will speak about his current clinical work in Lviv, Gerard Fromm (Austen Riggs Center) will report on a recent experience of discussing trauma with Ukrainian clinicians and on conversations with a mediator in the Donbas region and Françoise Davoine (Paris) and Ghislaine Boulanger (New York) will join the discussion about the possibility of conducting psychoanalysis during times of war. The discussion will be moderated by Jeanne Wolff Bernstein (Vienna).
