SIGMUND FREUD CHRONOLOGY

	Publishes "The Psychical Mechanism of Forgetting".
	Freud is set on proving the primacy of unconscious mechanisms and that "consciousness is only a sense organ, all psychic contents only representation, all mental events are unconscious." (to Fliess 31.8.1898) The article on forgetting is the first detailed examination of a "Freudian slip", which in this case is a forgotten name. In analyzing the reasons why he forgot the name of the artist Signorelli, Freud uncovers a series of devious unconscious associations that reveal the mechanisms of repression. "How can I make that credible to anyone?" he asks Fliess on September 22, 1898.
