SIGMUND FREUD CHRONOLOGY

	Sigismund Freud is born on May 6, 1856 in Freiberg, Moravia (now Pribor in the Czech Republic).

	His parents, Jacob Freud (1815-1896) and Amalia Freud, born Nathanson, (1835-1930), had married the previous year. Freud is his mother's eldest child. His father's adult sons from a previous marriage, Emanuel and Philipp, also live with them. Emanuel's children, John and Pauline, are Freud's early playmates in Freiberg.

	A younger brother, Julius, is born in 1857, arousing his elder brother's jealousy, but he dies at the age of a few months. Having wished his death, Freud experiences self-reproaches. Later he is to say that the relationships to Julius and to John determined the neurotic and intense elements of all later friendships.
	In 1858 a sister, Anna, is born.
