Joan Jonas "Reflection - a Variation of Mirror Pieces 1 and 2, 1968 - 2004"

As the third project of the installation series "Außenansicht - fortgesetzt / A View from Outside - Continued", the Sigmund Freud Museum shows the installation "Reflection - a Variation of Mirror Pieces 1 and 2, 1968 - 2004" by the american performance artist Joan Jonas in the former store of the Kornmehl Butcher shop in Berggasse 19. Following the works of the brasilian artist Ernesto Neto, who opened the exhibition series in 2005 with his work "Tractatus IDeuses", and "The Tired Room" by the polish artist Monika Sosnowska, this is the third installation of modern arts in te framework of this series.
"Reflection - a Variation of Mirror Pieces 1 and 2, 1968 - 2004" is a new variation of mirror works primarily reconstructed for the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in 1994. Included are mirror cosumes by Oad Lau and Wind, ten mirrors, a circle of stones, early photographs and super 8 film clips transferred to video. An aspect of Joan Jonas's work is that it does not have a fixed or finished form. The setting of a performance, altered, becomes another related work. By rearranging and adding elements each presentation suggests a slightly different narrative. Joan Jonas tells about her installation: "Placing work in this very special location will result in a different narrative."
